Day 8

It was our final day in Menorca and normally we would be leaving at all sorts of random hours but today, we didn’t have to leave the hotel until 12.30pm, and even better, didn’t have to check out until midday either! We had planned to do a bit of tanning and swimming in the morning but it was still quite cloudy so instead we took it easy, got our breakfast and packed before saying goodbye to our room for the last time.

As we were checking out, another French couple were arguing with the hotel staff about a discretion on their bill I would imagine. Not sure what it is with the French this holiday but they just weren’t in a holiday chill-out mood it seems.

From the taxi ride to the airport and through baggage drop, security and passport control, everything in Menorca airport seemed relatively easy once again and we were on the plane home. From almost 40 degree heat in Spain, we arrived back to the lovely wet, cold and windy Belfast.

Normally we would be heading straight home to get a Derry Curry, half and half, but tonight, we were heading into Belfast for a family gathering at Anna’s great aunt and uncle’s. To get there speedily, after disembarking I went to get the car as Anna waited for our bag. With only 3% left on her phone, it was something out of a mission impossible movie to time this just right. In her panic, Anna even took someone else’s yellow suitcase and was heading to the door before she was called back. How embarrassing - I was glad not to be there!

Traditionally, we normally get bracelets wherever we go on holiday but with the lack of touristy-bracelets shops in Menorca, we didn’t get one this time. However, Lauren and Erin, Anna’s cousins (it’s too early to work out all the once-removed carry on), made us bracelets so we can tick that off. Pippin was excited to see us again and delighted to be coming home with us after missing us for a week. It was the end of our short Menorcan adventure but we’ll see you in the next one!
