Day 6

It was our last day with the little red Fiat so we planned to visit some of the famous Menorcan beaches. Apparently, Menorca has more beaches than the islands of Ibiza and Mallorca combined, but I doubt we would be able to visit all of them, especially as the Fiat really struggles on any sort of incline!

Avid readers will know that Anna loves anything with water, from pools to fountains, but her main passion is the sea. In another life, Anna would have chosen mermaid as her occupation so it broke her heart to see it raining on the drive to the first beach. Maybe it was just a summer shower and relief rainfall rolled into one and we would be fine.

Although the rain did stop, the clouds still covered the sky for a good part of the day. Nothing was stopping us though! Well maybe the lack of parking spaces at Cala Galdana which forced us to skip that beach and instead visit the beach down the road - Cala Mitjaneta. When I say it was down the road, it was a 20 minute walk through a forest. Much better than Cala Galdana anyway!

It wasn’t quite as beautiful and spectacular as we thought and we blamed that on the clouds. It was also quite busy so we had to make do with the rocks to rest our towels as we took a dip. The water was choppy today and Anna said it reminded her of Lisnagelvin swimming pool - probably if it had extreme budget cuts and nobody working at it.

One beach done, we were onto the next. Just before that, Anna had a wee stamp on my sunglasses before getting into the car. Thankfully they weren’t broken or I would be driving blind into the Menorcan sun!
Back in the car I accidentally soaked Anna. I didn’t see a ramp on the road and took it at some speed, covering Anna with the bottle of water that she was drinking out of. Was it retaliation from stomping on my sunglasses? We’ll never know.

On the way to the next beach, we stopped at Cova d’en Xoroi, a bar of sorts built into the cliffside. During the day it is open for drinks and at night, it becomes a proper club. We would have loved to come here at night as it really is something else! Although with the low cave ceilings and steep fall into the ocean, I wouldn’t advise getting black out drunk or you might do damage to yourself!

Calo Blanc was our last stop of the day with the most beautiful blue water. The only problem, it was so choppy we couldn’t find a way into the water over all the rocks (more so that we wouldn’t be able to get out of the water afterwards either). It was also directly under the airport’s flightpath so the drone was banned from flying to get the lovely water from above. I did manage to get 60 seconds of footage before it was ordered to land though.

We needed to leave the car back to the hotel this evening so we got a few supplies from the shop and spent the rest of the evening by the pool just chilling. I accidentally picked up a wine bottle that wasn’t a screwtop in the shop and had to open it without a corkscrew - at least it kept me entertained for a while!

We had dinner in the hotel and listened to the 3 guitarists on the rooftop bar, this evening’s entertainment, and dare I say, the best performers of the week so far, despite the tough crowd!
