Day 2

Day 2 in sunny Menorca started with breakfast. A buffet breakfast in fact with the normal fruit, cereal and hot food counters. Two main things I rate my hotels on include the breakfast and the shower - so top marks to Barcelo Nura so far.

However, this breakfast was different to others. Beside the cylinders of orange juice was a bucket of ice and cava. Don’t mind if we do…”we’re on holidays”…we thought. Spot the newcomers/alcoholics as we seemed to be the only ones drinking it - more for us I guess.

Before our day of extreme tanning, we took a walk into the nearby town of Binibeca to scout some restaurants for later and visit the local supermarket. Since our trip to Greece in 2021, our go-to pool drink has been Malibu and orange juice, so we filled Oscar, our backpack, with Malibu, orange juice, some snacks, (water of course!) and a bottle of Cava, mainly for the reason it was called Anna.

Again, the town and roads were quiet, as was the hotel when we returned. We basically had all the pools to ourselves as we led a fairly productive tanning, but also quite a boring day by the pool. The highlight of the day was when the german couple in the room next to us dropped their newspaper and it took a swim in the pool. Anna’s lifeguard training came in handy as she rescued the damp pages back to shore.

As a result of our reconnaissance this morning, we took the 20minute walk into town for dinner. With it being a pleasant and quiet little village, of course Anna had to cause a stir by knocking over her balsamic vinegar and painting the floorboards black. Luckily we weren’t kicked out and finished our dinner surrounded by an unusual amount of cats and dogs for an outdoor restaurant.

With no streetlights down here, our walk home was illuminated by the stars in the sky and the odd mood-lighting from the fancy villas along the coast. Our plan was to hit the rooftop bar for the DJ set which was scheduled for this evening’s entertainment.

We decided not to pursue this as when we arrived back, the crowd were certainly not going wild to the tracks of Rick Astley. Quite the difference to the Ibiza Rocks vibe that I had in my head. Anna Cava and DJ Fieldmouse to the rescue.
