Day 17 - Home

It was an early flight and we were awake at 4am to pack and check out before our taxi at 4.30am. When I say early, the streets were just as busy with people probably just finishing their dinner. We arrived at Marrakech airport and checked in our bags before heading through to security.

It was actually a lovely airport and better than I expected. We were even treated to some real drama as a woman was literally roaring about checking in her bag. Not sure what was happening but she was irate and flinging things everywhere, contents spilling from her bag and all before she was removed by security.

Through security and passport control, things were a lot calmer and happier, with our passport control officers even singing a song together. Although it took us nearly an hour to get through to our gate, our flight was on time - Always the positive thing about an early flight, they are rarely cancelled or delayed unless it is something major.

After 3 and a half hours, we touched down in Dublin and having weaved our way through passport control and collected our bags, we were on the bus back home to Derry.

Morocco was an interesting country. Some areas are definitely going to be new tourist spots in the future and the locals are starting to accept western ways and adapting to tourists. It’s (very) hot but you get used to it and some of the men are very rude, but you don’t get used to that. Overall, it was safer than I thought it would be, but you just always need to be careful in the big cities of Fes, Casablanca and Marrakech.

After 17 days, endless hours of travelling, 9 cities/towns, 10 hotels/apartments and basically a tour of all of Morocco, we are finally back home to lie on the couch and order some rice, chips and curry sauce.

See you in the next one! x
