Day 7 – Naxos

The only way into town today was to get the 8.45am bus and so we had our earliest start of the trip so far. Like the locals, we knew exactly where to stand and wave down the bus, despite not even knowing if it was the right bus or not (Greek buses rarely use any signage).

In the town of Chora, we got our connecting bus to Agrios Prokopius, apparently the best beach in Naxos. We couldn’t argue with that fact as the beach was pretty good – we even opted for the nice wooden sun loungers today.

The rest of the day consisted of sun bathing with the occasional swim to cool us down. The water was clear blue and we played my favourite game to play on holidays – Leg diving. You swim under each others legs and try not to touch them. It’s great fun and there’s a lot of tactics involved, especially in salt water. While I topped up my tan, Louis sat in the shade for most of the day to continue his sunburn recovery and did some future hostel admin.

If you thought ‘Gosh, what a boring day’, you would be right. In saying that, we did go and get a cold chocolate milkshake as we needed to charge our phones – the struggle of the modern day…

Before we knew it, it was coming up to 6pm and that meant that the World Cup Final was about to start. We managed to catch most of the entertaining match but had to leave just before 7.30pm to get out bus back to town.

The French were in celebration by the time we got back, singing their songs and yelling Allez les Blues. We were preoccupied with people watching until our final bus of the day arrived to take us back into our little Greek village. We had planned to visit the supermarket there and cook a cheap meal but it was closed – we forgot it was a Sunday!

Instead, we needed to eat something so we went to our local restaurant down the lane. It had cheap prices, large portions, nice food and slow service. We were even given free chocolate cake as we waited for our bill (although everyone else got this too so we weren’t that special).

When we got back to our room I smothered Louis with aftersun in the hope that in the morning he would be a fully functioning tanner. He then went straight to sleep as the wee lightweight overdid it with his Ouzo. Classic Louis. While he slept, I thought it was about time I whip the razor out and do a bit of self grooming if you get the jist…. these cheap razors are definitely not as good as my Daddy’s. Whoops, the secrets out! Sorry Dad hehe.

I jumped into bed and watched some greek television whilst falling asleep. Just like a baby – smooth and very, very slowly.

Viva la France.
