If you’ve noticed something different in our blog today then well done. A request from a top fan…my gran, is to change the writing so it can be more legible. Your wish is granted!

We embarked on our journey to the other side of the island (only 45 mins away) to visit Marsaxlokk, a traditional fishing village which holds a huge market on Sunday’s. Leaving early so we would see all the fresh fish being sold, we eventually got there after some confused direction making from Anna in the passenger seat.

The market was huge and stretched the whole length of the promenade, selling jewellery to clothes, traditional Maltese food and of course, fresh fish. The smell was enough to put Anna off having another Bridie’s back home…the gutting of the fish made sure of it.

It was National Dance Day and so we were treated to a number of children dancing to a marching band. Perhaps not the best choreography we’ve ever seen, but they had a great time and got involved and that’s all that matters. The dance ended with a water fight, a nun coming to wave at people from her balcony and some selfies with the Priest, who was wearing a black cape and aviator sunglasses.

As with much of Malta, there is constant construction going on whether it be roads or buildings. Our road to St. Peter’s Pool was closed and rather than walk to it and get sweaty again, we instead opted to visit the Blue Grotto – a series of caves and crystal blue water.

After a road trip across Malta, we finally returned to our accommodation for the night, setting up a time-lapse of the sunset (and fireworks). There were even more fireworks tonight, the Maltese really really love fireworks. Unfortunately, the phone kept falling over due to the blustery conditions so you see more stone than sun. We’ll try again.

With the Tour de France coming to a close, I watched the final few kilometres of the race in Paris, with Anna entertaining herself in the balcony, learning ‘The Git Up’ Dance which is apparently the new dancing craze with all the hip, young ones. It was great entertainment for the night and a fantastic way to round off National Dancing Day.
