Day 5 – Cork to Dublin

After a lie in until 9, we went down to the hotel restaurant to get our free fry up. When we arrived at the counter to be seated and told the girl about our phone call last night, she didn’t quite understand why they would offer us free breakfast but happily showed us to our seats anyway… I was a bit disappointed that there was no potato or sofa bread but hey, I still cleaned the plate and beggars can’t be choosers and all that.
My bf was really struggling with the cold today and wasn’t feeling great so he wasn’t on his usual top form. Whilst he rested some more in bed, I tided and packed up our room and put any leftover pizza from last night into plastic containers. It’s a crime to throw out pizza.

We checked out at 11am and hit the road. We didn’t really know what our plan was and lost a bit of motivation due to the horrible weather outside. As we navigated our way through the city of Cork we spotted St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral. It was pretty impressive.
Continuing our journey along the coast, we headed in the direction of Wexford, passing through Waterford on the way. I can’t say I would come back here unless someone was going to buy me some crystal… then I’d think about it.
The thought of staying in a tent tonight was repulsive and as we have a friends wedding when we get home, sleeping in a wet tent wasn’t worth it getting even more sick so we headed straight to Dublin, fair city.

To pick up our moods we stopped for an ice-cream. Unfortunately however, when my bf took a bite into his, the cone snapped in half crashing into his favourite red fleece. Could this sundae get any worse!

Our next stop after lunch (last nights pizza/cheese and crackers) was the Wicklow Mountains. On the way we passed Avoca. My mum is obsessed with Avoca coats so it would have been rude if I didn’t stop for a look. We didn’t buy anything though mum in case you’re getting excited. Due to the weather we couldn’t actually see anything when we arrived at Wicklow Mountains. Today just wasn’t our day.

When we arrived at our friends house, we knew that the day was on its way up… eventually. Our friends dad advised my bf that the best way to get rid of a cold was to wash it away. And wash it away he sure did.

After a big BBQ grub, we hit a few pubs for more than a few drinks. As we are in Ireland I drank vodka produced in Dingle, which was much better than the Tesco finest one I usually drink at university. You can’t go wrong with a good vod, blackcurrant and water. I swear by it, you wake up hangover free, as in every drink you are hydrating yourself and basically cancelling out any alcohol. Works wonders, trust me… As I’m sure you all know, “one last round” never actually happens and it wasn’t until Temple Bar pushed us out the door and onto a bicycle cart taxi until we were on our way home. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit more exciting than today.
