Day 47 – Monte Carlo

We were both sunburnt this morning and a lovely lobster colour. It didn’t help our motivation to get up and do something so we ended up relaxing until lunchtime, making a meal with anything we had left in the fridge – peas, bacon, eggs, rice and pasta sauce. I thought it was quite nice but my girlfriend thought otherwise.
As we had no food left, we visited a shop first and it was leaking everywhere – water dripping down from the ceiling and spreading out across the floor from below the shelves. Avoiding the water and successfully picking a dessert for tonight, we went back to the apartment to leave our groceries off. I was wearing a pink shirt today and I don’t know why because it was so warm, I was surely bound to get sweat patches!
We looked for the bus stop that would take us to Monte Carlo but they had moved it recently to another place, and then another. My shirt was actually soaked with sweat and I had to go back to change it before we could do anymore walking, I just couldn’t wear that all day! My girlfriend used this time to ask in a hotel where the bus stop was and it was now down by the port.
It is only €1.50 to go to Monte Carlo and I couldn’t believe it. Apparently it used to be €1 as well! The local buses cost more to go 2 stops away yet alone an hour journey. I wanted to get off at the first stop in Monte Carlo so we could walk up the pit lane but as my girlfriend saw nobody else do this, we had to stay until the next one and then walk back down it. I’ve watched my Formula 1, I know my way about.
We walked along the track and the marina, looking at the boats and fancy hotels before visiting the beach for a while. We passed the most famous corner in the world and the well-known casino, which we weren’t dressed to go into. There were so many tourists taking pictures, especially with the fancy sports cars outside. Incase we were dressed for the casino, we were counting our change to see how much we had for our bus back. We only had €2.92 and needed €3. It just meant that we would have to get more money out and not use up all this loose change. It was still pretty funny that we were counting our 1 cents and 2 cents in the middle of the Monte Carlo Casino car park.
On the way back down to the bus stop, we passed somewhere that looked oddly familiar. My friend was actually here yesterday and he got a picture in this exact spot. I copied his pose and we managed to get the exact same photo for a bit of friendly banter. He did enjoy it. When the bus came, we had to stand on the bus but were entertained by a group of friends that were talking about how Australia and Austria are always mixed up – understandable I guess – and Sweden and Switzerland – not so much. One of the girls also felt really sick and had my girlfriend’s sweat bubbles on her arm. We could relate.
The rest of the night consisted of dinner on the balcony, homemade cocktails, a game of chess thrown in there with some card games and dessert, which I didn’t like because it was chocolate mousse. I thought it was just chocolate fudge cake – I hate mousse. Tomorrow we had to go to Cannes as we had done everything else here now and Cannes actually has a nice beach. Hopefully we could get up earlier as well!
