When the alarm went off we had less than an hour to first of all find the will power to get up, then shower, get dressed, pack and make it to the train station in time for our train to Florence. To say that both us weren’t feeling 100% would be an understatement. I personally felt like I had been hit by bus but I reckon it was because of our long walk home last night….

We made it in time for the train and found our seats. I had planned to write the blog on the journey but I just couldn’t face looking at a phone or concentrating on anything. Instead, I put my sunglasses on, used my jacket as a coat and slept for the rest of the journey, as did Louis.

If you have read blogs from our previous travels, you would know that Louis and I have often fallen asleep and ended up in an other location and the train shed house…. even my dad text to say “don’t wake up in Rome”. Thankfully, we made it off the train in Florence with no issues.

Our hotel was a short walk from the station located on the end of the Ponte Vecchio. When we opened the door to the room it really did excel our expectations. The room has a large king size bed, a jacuzzi bath, 2 TVs, 2 balconies, an amazing bathroom, a walk in dressing room and a large living area. To add to the list, it also had authentic stone detailing on the walls and fancy drapes from the ceiling. Louis chose well, very well.

After exploring our room and hotel, we needed carbs. We still weren’t feeling so well so we were both craving pasta pronto! We went to the closest restaurant, and we were given a private little dinning room to scoff our food down. I prefer to just heap the spaghetti into my mouth than to waste time twirling, so I could do this without Louis getting embarrassed or kicking me from under the table. Mid lunch, it seemed as though on the other side of our lovely little private room, someone was doing some maintenance as for the rest of our lunch there were loud bangs and drill sounds echoing through the room. This didn’t help the heads but did mean we could have an excuse to sit in silence.

After a late lunch we headed back to our room where I enjoyed a warm bath and some TV. I was hoping to sweat the alcohol out – something had to work. After a nap, I popped 2 paracetamol and got to work on the blog. It was now 7 hours behind schedule and the fans were starting to worry.

At about 6 o’clock we started to feel better so we got showered and glammed up to head out for dinner. We visited a lovely little restaurant across the river that did great cocktails (hair of the dog), great pasta and ok bruschetta. It had nothing on mine. In true Anna style, I did knock my cocktail off the table. After it had spilled half of its contains over Louis, I caught it before it hit the ground and saved the rest. Phew, lucky I’ve got ninja talents!

We spent the rest of the evening walking through the cobbled side streets towards the Duomo. We listened to street singers and enjoyed the Italian atmosphere. Before heading back to the hotel, we decided to get some ice cream. Louis had a standard 2 scoop cone and I opted for a tub and just 1 scoop of ice cream. Well, if I had of known the price I would’ve passed, €20 for 2 ice creams, €20!!! Outside the ice cream shop was a pig with a golden nose that you rub for good luck. Pity I didn’t spot this before entering the ice cream spot. Perhaps we would have got them for cheaper!

Today was very much a recovery day, so we went back to the room and watched some more TV before falling asleep early. We are both looking forward to waking up fresh tomorrow morning, hangover free!
