Day 5 – The last day

It was our last day in Barcelona and as we hadn’t given ourselves too much time to just relax and catch up on sleep, we allowed ourselves a lie in this morning, so much so that the cleaners had entered our room only to find our that we were still there!

As I got ready, Louis did some admin, publishing teamsheets etc and we were off to explore Barcelona one last time. After a tour around the arena next to our hotel, we had lunch at tapa tapa and Anna even got an arm massage by a man in Lush, for a bit too long if you ask me.

It was by far the best day on our travels thus far and with the weather so warm and sunny, we opted to go back to the beach. Over the next couple of hours we walked along the promenade, watching men build sandcastles (with water features and fire), watched a couple of volleyball matches (which Anna and I recovered the ball on a couple of occasions after a stray shot), and finally settled on the beach with a bottle of cava and some beer.

Despite the fact that I had jeans and a shirt, it was a rather pleasant afternoon and the beach started to get busier as people clocked off work. Before we left, we even managed to fit in a FaceTime with one of our biggest fans Jerome, which had become sort of a tradition now on our adventures.

A quick metro home to shower and get rid of the sand from our pockets and shoes, we headed our for dinner. However, this time, we would have company…

My friend Matthew McConnell, or just Matty, had arrived in Barcelona today to visit his brother Gordon and his girlfriend Kirsty. We all met for tapas at a local restaurant and thankfully Gordon and Kirsty were pretty fluent in Spanish and sorted everything for us. After dinner, we headed for drinks and continued sharing stories and drinking into the evening. With Anna falling asleep, we knew it was time for us to leave and get home as we were up early for our flight.

Day 6 – Gatwick

Up at 6am and checked out by 7am, it was going to be a tough task to get Anna on this flight as she could barely open her eyes. My first experience of travelling with an infant. Thankfully we got on our Norwegian Air flight with no problems, despite the Barcelona airport being on fire and causing lots of smoke at the other end of the airport.

Anna heads back to Bath and I head back to Ireland after our short adventure to Barcelona. It was a beautiful city with lots to do and we recommend you visit if you haven’t before! Perhaps don’t visit in February as most things haven’t really opened – The locals suggest April.

Keep drinking gin and keep travelling…
