Today was set to be another fun day. On our way to our next adventure we stopped at a cafe for some muffins and pastry slices. We had planned to rent a boat and spend the day exploring the coastline of Chania but unfortunately when we arrived at the first harbour, all the boats had been reserved. Having done his research, Louis knew there was another boat rental company in the next bay, past the old harbour of Chania.
When we arrived the man explained that he might have a cancellation but we will have to wait for an hour to see. We went for a quick dip and crossed our fingers and toes for a cancellation. It didn’t work, when we arrived back the man said that sadly there wasn’t a cancellation and we couldn’t rent a boat today. We managed to reserve one for tomorrow though so it wasn’t too bad I suppose.
We walked back to the apartment through the narrow streets of old town Chania. We stopped for a swim to cool off again at the steps just in front of the apartment. Everyone else in swimming were much much older, so I could be as weird as I wanted. I swam through Louis legs, did some impressive handstands, front and backwards rolls and practised my mermaid swimming. Even after missing a holiday last year, I’ve still got it.
It had nearly been a whole 3 hours since Louis last ate so he was starting to get hungry. We went to the apartment to dry off and headed for lunch in one of the cafe’s just below us. The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring the old town and city of Chania a bit more in the blistering heat, Louis was wetter than when he was in swimming. As it was Sunday, the famous market, Agora, was closed, as was the supermarket, so we couldn’t even top up the rehydration station (fridge) for the evening ahead, disaster! Although they were twice the price, we did find a street mini market which sold some beers and Bacardi breezers. Panic over!
We returned to the apartment just in time for the F1 to start. Even I enjoyed watching this race but the repetitive sound of the cars zooming past quickly put me asleep. Before getting ready for dinner, I had washed Louis clothes in the shower. This is the second time I’ve done this so I questioned why he didn’t bring enough t-shirts and boxers for everyday and a few extra. His response was because he wouldn’t be able to fit them all in the suitcase…. without having our first argument of our marriage I politely reminded him that he would have been able to fit everything in if he had booked on enough bags in the first place. You get my jist, no wonder it only takes men 5 minutes to pack. If I only packed a few t-shirts and a pair of pants it wouldn’t take me long either.
I enjoyed a few drinks on the balcony while Louis did all the important paper work for our Covid vaccine passport. Thankfully all proof of both our vaccines had been updated on system so we won’t have to self isolate when we return home.
We headed in towards Chania old town to find somewhere to eat. We found an authentic Italian restaurant… for a change, with a very friendly waiter. We ordered a dish with potatoes…. Again for a change, but the waiter said he didn’t have any potatoes left as there were lots of children in yesterday who nearly all ordered chips. He suggested another dish instead so we went with that. Dinner was extremely delicious so our hungry tummy’s were happy.
On our walk home there were street sellers catapulting light spinners into the air. Louis dared me to run and catch it before the man did. I never turn down a challenge so of course I went and did it. The street seller enjoyed the craic though so all was good. We also witnessed a proposal in a nearby restaurant. Everyone was cheering and clapping as the young couple got a bit frisky.
Again, Chania town was so busy with live music and concerts blasting in all directions. We had our white wine from the winery chilling in the fridge, calling our names. We cracked it open and enjoyed it on the balcony. Pure class.
